For this panel, we wanna look at comics as both a medium and Comic book movies and look at how superheroes respond to bad situations. Using this as a catalyst to address how we should appropriately respond to depression, anxiety, suicide, etc. How even the worst situations can yield beautiful and heroic stories.

4pm – From Kickstarter to Patreon: Creatives Connecting with the Crowd – Greg Wilson
Crowfunding has become so much a part of the fabric of the creative landscape over the past ten years that it’s sometimes hard to imagine a world without Kickstarter, Patreon, and other similar platforms, especially in the indie space. But there are also warning signs–oversaturation, broken delivery promises and delays leading to backer hesitation for future projects, and other such concerns. In this panel, speculative fiction author, podcaster, and TwitchTV channel host Gregory A. Wilson (author of the graphic novel Icarus and its upcoming sequel Jellinek, the dark fantasy novel Grayshade, and the new D&D adventure/sourcebook Tales and Tomes from the Forbidden Library (the first and last funded by Kickstarter), and co-host of the critically acclaimed Speculate! podcast, supported by Patreon) discusses some of the pros and cons of Kickstarter and Patreon, things to consider when working in the crowdfunding space, and how to keep your work professional and backers happy.

Shows like the Big Bang Theory have really changed the comic-con landscape. It sure got the numbers in the doors but with that, hoards of fanboys and girls who aren’t really comic readers. For nearly five years, Kasey Pierce has managed to sell her books to “stuff enthusiasts” across the nation–selling out too! in this panel, she’ll cover how to sell indie comics, what production is really like, and go over what publisher’s look for–how to pitch and sell your story.

3pm – History of Multiverses – Don Simpson

From Character to World to Multiverse: A History of Team-Ups, Crossovers, and Shared Realities

Independent characters have been enlisted into ever-expanding multiverses since the days of myth, and have crossed over in literature, comics, and movies ever since. Whether it’s the DCU (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman) or Marvel-Timely (Captain America, Sub-Mariner, Human Torch), the individual creative vision has been the building block of modern pantheons.

Veteran comics pro Don Simpson has created his own characters and worlds (Megaton Man, Border Worlds) and freelanced in shared universes (Marvel, DC, Image Comics). Now he offers some unique historical perspectives on how the impulse to share, crossover, and miscegenate has driven narratives from the Wold-Newton Universe of Doc Savage, the Shadow, and Tarzan to modern extravaganzas like Secret Wars and Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the cinematic universes they have spawned!

There will be something for every kind of fan this richly-illustrated slide show lecture.
